Moisture Measurement

Moisture is important in any manufacturing process, but when it comes to hog fuel, waste fiber, wood chips, pellets, saw dust, shavings, and forest waste, excess moisture can ruin products. And what’s worse than a wasted effort? Economical losses and decreased productivity.

But with today’s new technology, moisture levels are easy to control. Here at MoistTech, we’ve created the IR 3000 moisture sensor, which is a non-contact form of monitoring moisture.

If Your Business Is Gypsum – You Should Be In Vancouver This October

Vancouver Hosts Global Gypsum Conference 2018

The annual Global Gypsum Conference is well-known around the world as the largest meeting of gypsum professionals and as the must-attend gypsum event. The conference in 2018 will meet in fabulous Vancouver and will appeal to gypsum and wallboard producers from around the globe. Strong delegate groups are expected to attend from the Americas and from Asia, as well as from around the rest of the world.

Gypsum moisture varies depending on the source of its deposit (e.g., sea water, volcanic vapors, industrial byproduct, etc.) and the requirement of its final application or product (e.g., agricultural soil amendment, gypsum wall board, concrete, etc.). Because mined and industrially produced gypsum are both water soluble, gypsum’s moisture content must be monitored and controlled during the production process to ensure its usability.

Moisture Measurement in Gypsum

Gypsum moisture varies depending on the source of its deposit (e.g., sea water, volcanic vapors, industrial byproduct, etc.) and the requirement of its final application or product (e.g., agricultural soil amendment, gypsum wall board, concrete, etc.). Because mined and industrially produced gypsum are both water soluble, gypsum’s moisture content must be monitored and controlled during the production process to ensure its usability.

To monitor and measure gypsum moisture in the industrial environment, MoistTech developed, with the input of our mineral industry partners, the IR-3000 near infrared (NIR) online moisture transmitter. Capable of capturing thousands of measurements per second, the IR-3000 allows you to not only monitor the moisture content of gypsum, but also control it, by adjusting the production process, in real time. The IR-3000’s sensor provides instant, non-contact measurements of nearly any product or raw material. It is unsurpassed in the industry for quality, performance, and reliability.

International Pack Expo 2018 Welcomes MoistTech

Chicago Is The Theme This Fall For Shows – BRRR!

2018 Seems to be the year for trade shows in Atlanta and Chicago – good thing for us we grew up in the colder climates and can handle 4 days in Chicago, mid October! Crazy right? Well maybe – but we have some great technology and knowledge to share with the Packaging Industry! On the heels of USIPA, The International Packaging Expo will be hosted in Chicago, IL from October 14-17, 2018.

MoistTech Corp will be in Booth E-7048 with LIVE demonstrations of our technology throughout the show. We encourage you to stop by and see our sensors in action.

Moisture Measurement with MoistTech

Insensitive to material variations such as particle size, material height & color, the 3000 series sensors provide continuous, reliable readings. Production efficiency improvements due to accurate real-time measurements provide both energy savings and potential increased productivity with lower material losses. Our sensors use state-of-the-art components allowing installation in the most extreme locations. As a result of MoistTech’s advanced digital processing, only the 3000 series provides true data regardless of gaps and interruptions of product flow on the belt or screw conveyors. In addition to the MoistTech management software, we offer several read-out options to display and / or adjust the measurement outputs.

In the corrugating industry, corrugated board moisture control is critical during the manufacturing process. Being such a porous material, corrugated board can easily become too wet or dry wasting manufacturers time and money. Additionally, by controlling moisture, both top and bottom face material corrugators can eliminate curl. With the help of industry partners and 40 years of knowledge, MoistTech has developed the IR-3000 moisture sensor which is ideally suited to measure the corrugated board moisture levels in the board corrugating process while improving manufactures product quality and lowering their energy costs.

US Industrial Pellet Association Comes to Chicago in 2018

Posted by:

USIPA Provides Sustainable Solutions

Wood pellets are a vital part of the energy mix and provide needed base load power to energy systems around the world. They are good for the environment and carbon beneficial when compared to fossil fuels. Foresters and producers work together to maximize the benefits to U.S. forests while ensuring that emissions remain low during sourcing, production and transport.

Bioenergy is renewable fuel made from organic matter that reduces carbon emissions. Power producers seeking to decrease their dependence on fossil fuels and reduce their emissions of carbon dioxide and other pollutants are the primary users of bioenergy. European governments have adopted aggressive, mandatory renewable energy targets for 2020 and beyond. Many EU Member States have put additional regulations in place that are designed to phase out or significantly reduce the use of coal and other fossil fuels. Existing coal-fired infrastructure can be converted to use wood-based bioenergy.

According to the UK Environment Agency, switching from coal to bioenergy for power production results in a reduction of between 74% and 90% in net carbon emissions. The main reason for this is the carbon cycle. When wood bioenergy is burned, the carbon that the wood absorbed during growth is released into the atmosphere. In contrast, fossil fuels add to overall levels of CO2 in the atmosphere because the carbon released would have remained underground indefinitely.

Moisture Control with MoistTech

When looking at all the challenges that pellet plant operators are tasked with, moisture control is one of the biggest. In fact, sensing moisture in wood pellets is one of the most important steps, especially after manufacture when pellets are stored.

Those who are proactive in taking steps to monitor moisture in wood pellets understand that they can save money and avoid packaging product that is low in quality or wet. Measuring moisture in wood pellets can also help save energy wasted in over-drying. By measuring moisture continually through the production of wood pellets, proactive avoidance of moisture issues is accomplished. Our goal at MoistTech is to help those who manufacture wood pellets to deliver only the highest quality product through our moisture sensor technology.

LabelExpo Americas Is The Largest Label and Packaging Event

The Windy City of Chicago will be the home of the 2018 Label Expo Americas Event, from September 25-27 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. LabelExpo Americas is the largest event for the label and package printing industry in the Americas. Whether you’re choosing machinery or materials, it is vital you feel confident about your decisions. The best way to do this is to see all the options together in one place. Come to Labelexpo Americas 2018 and hear the noise of the machinery in operation, feel the texture of the substrates and see the print quality for yourself.

MoistTech Corp. will have live demonstrations throughout the show featured in BOOTH 456 – we encourage you to stop by and see our technology in action. What’s worse than a wasted effort? Economical losses and decreased productivity. See how MoistTech can help you eliminate waste and energy and increase profits and productivity on your manufacturing line.

Moisture Control with MoistTech

In the paper / converting process there are many locations throughout manufacturing that the paper moisture sensor can be used. The location is often determined by the space availability and accessibility on the web / converting machinery as well as manufactures moisture control plan. Once installed, a manufacturer can continuously monitor the process and can control the moisture content, either manually or automatically.

Having the precise moisture levels of paper products in converting operations, newsprint, tissue and corrugated liner pulp has become a critical component during production. Paper can easily become either too wet or too dry wasting manufacturers time or money. With the help of industry partners and 40 years of knowledge, MoistTech has developed the IR 3000 moisture sensor which is ideally suited to measure the moisture levels as well as water and solvent based coatings and coat weight thicknesses during the paper/converting process, improving manufactures product quality and increased productivity within substantial cost savings.
