Testing, Measurement and Control
Having
the correct levels of moisture in corrugated board has become a critical
component during the production process. Being such a porous material,
corrugated board can easily become either too wet or dry wasting manufacturers'
time and/or money. With the help of industry partners and 30 years
of knowledge, MoistTech has proudly developed the IR-3000 Moisture Sensor
which is ideally suited to measure the moisture in corrugated board during
the corrugating process while improving manufactures' product quality and
lowering their energy costs.
Installation….
By installing the MoistTech corrugated
board moisture sensor on the corrugator, a manufacturer can continuously
monitor the process and can control the moisture in corrugated board content
in liner, medium or face locations, either manually or automatically. To
accurately measure the levels of moisture in corrugated board, the sensor
should be installed over or angled, relative to the web that is transporting
the board.
Environment….
In corrugated board plants, the sensor
is often installed in extreme heat locations typically near a pre-heater.
In this situation, it is necessary to protect the sensor and should be
installed in an insulated box containing vortex cooler. Furthermore,
the environment in corrugated board plants can be very moist. In
this circumstance, an Air Purge
System should be installed to prevent condensation collecting on
the sensor’s optical window.

The staff at MoistTech is very experienced
with the requirements in the corrugated board process. Our sensor
calibrations, measurement wavelengths, algorithms and sensor optical requirements
are pre-set at the factory. The typical accuracy is about ±0.1%
moisture. The typical analog range is 0-10% moisture and up to as
much as 40%, subject to application. The outputs can be adjusted
to optimize PLC or recording requirements.
