In Tobacco - Testing, Measurement and Control
The
need for accurate levels of moisture in tobacco has become a very crucial
component during the various stages of tobacco processing and production.
Processors are constantly adjusting moisture
and heat during the conditioning process to maintain the quality of their
product. If the conditioned tobacco is too wet or too dry, the tobacco
will not bind together or pack well in each cigarette.
'Moisture
In Tobacco' Experts:
With the help of industry partners and
30 years of knowledge and experience, your MoistTech team of engineers
have proudly developed the IR-3000 series of sensors. Model
828 and Model 838 Tobacco Moisture Sensors are ideally suited to measure
all of the very critically important levels of moisture in tobacco in leaf
processing, expanded, cut and reconstituted tobacco.
Installation….
By installing the MoistTech tobacco moisture
sensor at the exit of the dryer, the sensor should be mounted several inches
above the conveyor so that it can continuously monitor the process and
can control the moisture in tobacco either manually or automatically.
Environment….
If the sensor has to be installed close
to the dryer outlet where it will be susceptible to extreme heat conditions,
it is necessary to cool the sensor with either air or water.

MoistTech's professional staff is very
experienced with the requirements in the production of tobacco. Our
sensor calibrations, measurement wavelengths, algorithms and sensor optical
requirements are pre-set at the factory. Typical accuracy is about
±0.1% moisture. Typical analog range is 5-15% moisture. The
outputs can be adjusted to optimize PLC or recording requirements.
