Biomass power is the use of biomass to generate electricity. These technologies include direct firing, cofiring, gasification, anaerobic digestion and other technologies. While many biomass power plants today use direct-fired systems, more advanced approaches—many including combined heat and power—are being deployed worldwide. In combined heat and power (CHP) systems, for example, a power plant’s spent steam is also used for manufacturing processes and/or building heat, boosting the overall efficiency of the system.

Moisture content is a critical parameter for wood fuel biomass. It is vital to the correct operation of biomass boilers and for the assessment of a load of fuel. Most wood fuel boilers are designed to operate with fuel of moisture content of a limited range. Feeding fuel that is outside this tolerated range the boiler will either result in inefficiency, leading to increased emissions, or error the control system and fail to function at all. All purchasing of wood fuel should be based by weight. In this practice the moisture content is critical to knowing how much you are paying for your energy. The higher the moisture content of incoming fuel results in overpaying for wood fuel. Measuring Moisture in Snack Foods

Experience Counts

With the help of food industry partners and 40 years of knowledge and experience, MoistTech has developed online and lab moisture sensors for the analysis of moisture of all types of food products. Using both NIR (near infrared) and RF (radio frequency), MoistTech has thousands of installations in a wide variety of food products, from slurries to powders.  While moisture is our major focus, we also supply analyzers for the continuous online measurement of protein, fat/oil, sugar, caffeine and other constituents/elements that absorb the NIR beam.

On moisture applications involving dried products, accuracies can be expected to be 0.1%.  On higher moisture applications, accuracies can be expected to be 0.2 and 0.5%.  Fat/oil measurement and protein accuracies are subject to application. Please consult a factory representative for further inquiries.

We recommend installing sensor(s) at the exit of the ovens, close to packaging so that it will allow the food time to stabilize while cooling. The sensor should be installed several inches above the conveyor belt or screw conveyor so that it can continuously monitor the process and can control the moisture content either manually or automatically in the finished product.

The objective of The North American Frac Sand Conference 2018 is to to bring the frac sand supply chain industry together to evaluate solutions for overcoming the current market and logistical challenges of supplying the sand to well sites.

Frac Sand

Typically, the frac sand is mined, washed, screened and stored in piles for supply of various grades.  The sand needs to be dried to the required moisture content before it can be sold or further processed to add a resin or alcohol coating. 

Dryers are much more efficient when the input moisture content is consistent. In reality, the moisture content of the sand entering the dryer varies constantly. Typical sand stockpiles can vary from 2%-8% moisture. This variation in the stockpile sand results in heating inadequacies wasting energy, money and out of spec frac sand.
