Tobacco has become a critical component during the various stages of production. Processors are constantly adjusting moisture
and heat during the conditioning process to maintain the quality of their

Installation….
We
recommend installing the 828 sensor
in several locations throughout process beginning with feed forward control, post dryer, cutting, conditioning
and prior to primary processing. The sensor should be mounted several inches above the conveyor so
that it can continuously monitor the process and can control the moisture
content either manually or automatically.

Environment….
The sensors ability to measure under the widest variations in process temperature, material heightcolor and ambient lighting is just a few of its features. A major propriety development incorporated in the system is its product loss software capability where small gaps, inert material or foreign objects are removed from the measurement calculation thus providing the most accurate and true moisture reading. The 828 is also ideal for installations on chain conveyors and screw conveyors. The 828 is designed for the harshest process environments. Unlike
other moisture sensors on the market
, dust and steam do not effect on MoistTechs 828 readings. However, if the sensor has to be installed close to
the dryer outlet where it will be susceptible to extreme heat conditions
, it may be necessary to cool the sensor with either air or water. The
sensor
(s) can be located throughout the process and can be directly connected to the users PLC or any laptop. Ethernet 4-20
ma are included as well as our hightech Windows operating software. DPMDigital Panel Meter and a Color Touch Screen Operator Interface
are also available as read
out options. Sensor calibrations, measurement wavelengths, algorithms and sensor optical requirements are preset at the factory. Typical accuracy is about ±0.1% low moisture applications and ±0.25% on high moisture applications. Complete measurement ranges are 0-65% moisture.

Measuring coat weights is an important factor during paper converting for the precise
control of films, water based adhesives, resins and hot melt glue applications.
Polyethylene, polypropylene and other coatings such as PVC can also be measured
and controlled to a high degree of accuracy. The IR3000 helps control the re moisturizing
process, monitor any additions of adhesive coatings and detect coating defects.
MoistTech’s IR3000 sensor is installed where 100% inspection is required and
quality needs to be maintained to very high standards. Our sensor calibrations,
measurement wavelengths, algorithms and sensor optical requirements are pre-set
at the factory. Typical paper moisture accuracy is ±0.05%, coating accuracy varies
from 0.1 to 0.01 micron depending on coating type. Typical analog range is
0-10% moisture and up to as much as 80%, subject to application. The outputs
can be adjusted to optimize PLC or recording requirements.

In
the paper converting process there are many locations throughout manufacturing
that the sensor can be used. Generally a sensor is located in the most critical
stages in paper converting such as pre-lamination of pressure sensitive
adhesive materials or following re-moisturizing. However, the location is often
determined by the space availability and accessibility on the web/converting
machinery as well as manufactures moisture requirements.

With
coat weight measurements the IR3000 can be installed either at the wet end, where
the coating is being applied or at the dry end, after the dryer or curing process.
Once installed, a manufacturer can continuously monitor the process and can
control the moisture content, either manually or automatically. Additionally,
the sensor can be directly connected to the users PLC or any laptop. Ethernet
and 4-20 ma are included as well as our high-tech Windows operating software.

By installing the MoistTech pretzel moisture sensor
at the exit of the ovens, close to packaging, will allow the pretzels time to
stabilize while cooling. The sensor should be installed several inches above
the belt or screw conveyor so that a baker can continuously monitor the process
and can control the moisture content either manually or automatically in the
finished product. If the pretzels
have gone through an oil spray, it is important to install the sensor at an
angle to cut down any reflectance from the oil coating.

If the sensor has to be installed close to the oven
outlet where it will be susceptible to extreme heat conditions, it is necessary
to cool the sensor with either air or water. Furthermore, if the sensor is
located near an oil spray, it is necessary to clean the sensor’s optical window

process.

Manufacturing
wood pellets requires the refining, drying and blending of wood waste
prior to entering the pellet press. By integrating MoistTech’s IR3000 into
the process, users are able to monitor 100% of their product
quality, instantly and consistently. Measuring moisture throughout
the wood pelletizing process will produce the pellets at a specific moisture
percentage preventing the out of specification when the product is too wet or
too dry. Additionally, pro-active adjustments can be made to the
process, to optimize pellet manufacturing.
Installation with MoistTech is
simple, MoistTech recommends installing sensors in several locations
throughout the pellet process.
First, installing
a sensor prior to the dryer will monitor the moisture levels going in. Too
dry of a product will result in over drying causing a dusty, ambient
environment but could also result in a fire. Installing sensors after the
dryer, prior to the pelletizer will also result in significant cost
savings. Product too dry will prevent pellets compacting and not molding
together very well. Product too wet could cause the pelletizer to plug up both
resulting in shutting down the line and product waste.
