Sulfur Moisture

Why Measure Moisture?

Sulfur is widely used in industries such as fertilizer production, chemical manufacturing, petroleum refining, and mining. It is typically processed in molten, solid, prilled, or granular forms depending on the application.

Moisture content plays an important role in sulfur processing and handling, particularly in solid and granulated forms. Excess moisture can contribute to caking, material buildup, and handling difficulties, while overly dry conditions may increase dust generation during conveying and processing.

The highest quality bulk sulfur has moisture levels below 0.5%–higher than that necessitates pre-treatment for many industrial applications. The effective measurement and subsequent management of the moisture content of sulfur is imperative for the production of the highest quality bulk sulfur.

Sulfur is found in various industries, serving as a key ingredient in the production of car batteries, fertilizer, oil refining, water processing, and mineral extraction. Additionally, sulfur-based chemicals play a vital role in rubber vulcanization, paper bleaching, and the manufacturing of essential products like cement, detergents, and pesticides. It is worth mentioning that sulfur also contributes to the creation of gunpowder.

No Recalibrations

We’ve mastered the art of moisture sensors – your unit will never need to be recalibrated for the same product twice!

Proper Installation

Post-Granulation / Forming: Measure moisture after sulfur is formed into prills or granules to establish product conditions before drying and identify process variability.

Post-Dryer: A critical control point for verifying moisture after drying and determining whether the finished material has reached the desired specification without unnecessary over-drying.

Pre-Storage / Loadout: Verify final moisture before storage or transport to support consistent product quality and reduce moisture-related handling issues.

The IR-3000 includes self-powered, isolated 3 x analog outputs at 4-20mA. A laptop, touch-screen tablet, Ethernet, or plant network can be used to communicate with the sensor head(s). The IR-3000 is delivered pre-calibrated, making installation extremely easy.

Dust, foreign objects, inert materials, ambient and product temperature, and other environmental factors do not affect the reliability and accuracy of this instrument. It can be installed and relied upon for continued performance in nearly any industrial environment. The IR-3000’s unsurpassed quality is backed by MoistTech’s world-class technical support.
