Overview

Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) manufacturing is a complex, multi-stage process in which moisture control is one of the most critical variables. Proper moisture management directly affects board strength, durability, appearance, resin efficiency, pressing behavior, and overall production yield. MoistTech’s IR-3000 Series provides the MDF industry with instant, non-contact, repeatable moisture measurements at multiple points in the process, enabling tighter control, reduced waste, and improved profitability.

Why Measure Moisture

Accurate, real-time moisture monitoring delivers multiple process and product benefits.

Process Stability

Real-time monitoring helps improve press performance and prevent downtime.

RECOMMENDED MEASUREMENT LOCATIONS

Incoming Green Wood Chips

Provides early adjustments to washing, screening, and drying operations.

Refined Fiber

Critical for proper resin and wax addition as the fiber enters or exits the flash dryer.

Pre-Formed Mat

Ensures the mat enters the press with the correct moisture for uniform compaction and bonding.

Each location benefits from continuous, real-time monitoring using the IR-3000, providing immediate corrective capability.

Installation depends on plant layout and production flow. The IR-3000 can be mounted above a conveyor to measure fiber or chips, above or beside the forming mat, looking into a fiber bin, or at the underside or side of a gravity chute through a specialized viewing window.

Understand the Process

MoistTech developed the IR-3000 series of online sensors for instant, non-contact measurement of many products and raw materials in the harshest manufacturing environments. Continually monitoring and controlling moisture levels allows operating personnel to confidently make immediate process adjustments based on real-time measurements.
