MoistTech™ Instant NIR Online Moisture Sensors

In dewatering processes the aim is to produce biosolids with high total solids residual (TSR). Measuring biosolid moisture online is essential for minimising dewatering costs such as biosolid disposal and polymer usage. In dewatering processes the aim is to produce biosolids with high total solids residual (TSR). Near-Infrared technology is a state of the art process in measuring moisture content within Bio Waste; MoistTech Corp™ manufactures a non contact continuous NIR (near-infrared) sensor that measure moisture content of slurries and solid materials.

Moisttech fitted our CCS3000 Bio Waste analyser on the screw feeder post centrifuge at the Sydney Water facility in Cronulla NSW. The CCS3000 came pre-calibrated so the installation, start up and commissioning could be achieved in a few hours. Traditional lab samples were taken over a 2-3 week period to compare the CCS3000 readings with the traditional laboratory moisture balance and a good correlation was achieved. The analyser will be used to monitor and control the process in real time with the aim of optimizing the centrifuge, increasing the solids and reducing polymer usage.

SYDNEY WATER COMMENTS – “Moisttech CCS3000 sensors are one time calibration, maintenance free with a non-drift optical design allowing operating personnel to confidently make immediate process adjustments based on real-time measurements.

The CCS3000 is ideal for all installation locations including belt presses, screw and enclosed conveyers after the centrifuges, and pipeline installations on incoming slurry to the centrifuges. The sensor(s) can be located throughout the process and directly connected to the users PLC or any laptop; Ethernet 4-20 ma are included as well as our Windows operating software with the purchase of a sensor. Having a real time on-line analysis provided.

The CCS3000 was pre set based on data from Quakers Hill and Bondi. We checked the gauge calibration at Cronulla and found the same settings were applicable with a standard error of 0.36% moisture. Therefore the calibration was unchanged with B: 14.99 (sensitivity) and C: 56.50 (offset)
