Corrugated Board Moisture
During the manufacturing process corrugated moisture control is extremely important. Proper monitoring and adjustment of corrugated moisture, can lead to a higher quality product. The porous properties of corrugated board make corrugated moisture control extremely important. Being such a porous material, corrugated board can easily become too wet or dry wasting manufacturers time and money. Additionally, by controlling moisture, both top and bottom face material corrugators can eliminate curl.
Because corrugated moisture control is so important, the MoistTech team has combined 40 years in the moisture control industry along with the opinions of customers to make corrugated moisture control easier and more precise. Our IR-3000 online and offline systems will streamline the process of your corrugated moisture control.
The Superior System
The IR-3000 is designed to not only be more accurate but to be low maintenance as well. An initial calibration is all it takes and it’s ready to go. The IR-3000 uses NIR and RF technology to take precise measurements in percentage wet and percentage dry, allowing you to make real time adjustments either automatically or manually making it much easier to monitor your corrugated moisture.
Installation
When installing your IR-3000 for corrugated moisture control, it’s important to remember that it is most effective when installed at an angle to the web on which the board is transported. When installing the sensor in areas with extreme heat, the sensor will need to be protect so you will want it installed in an insulated box with a vortex cooler
By installing the MoistTech corrugated board moisture sensor online, a manufacturer can continuously monitor the process and can control the corrugated board moisture content in liner, medium or face locations, either manually or automatically.
In corrugated board plants, the sensor is often installed in extreme heat locations typically near a pre-heater. In this situation, it is necessary to protect the sensor and should be installed in an insulated box containing vortex cooler. Furthermore, the environment in board plants can be very moist. In this circumstance, an air-purge should be installed to prevent condensation collecting on the corrugated board moisture sensor’s optical window.

MoistTech is very experienced with the requirements in the corrugated board moisture control process. Our sensor calibrations, measurement wavelengths, algorithms and sensor optical requirements are pre-set at the factory. Typical accuracy is about ±0.1% moisture. Typical analog range is 0-10% moisture and up to as much as 40%, subject to application. The outputs can be adjusted to optimize PLC or recording requirements.
