Proper Moisture Control

The management of clay powder moisture is crucial for ensuring the production of high-quality floor and wall tiles with consistent dimensions. Excessive moisture can lead to poorly shaped, pliable tiles during the dry press stage, while insufficient moisture can result in overly brittle products. Our online moisture measurement solution, the IR3000 from MoistTech, is a continuous near infrared (NIR) analyzer that provides accurate non-contact moisture readings directly within production environments. This enables real-time monitoring and control of moisture levels on various production lines, particularly in high-volume industrial settings where moisture content significantly impacts product quality. By utilizing this technology, businesses can achieve better control over powder bulk density, leading to more uniform final product dimensions, optimize moisture levels to reduce waste, and save energy by preventing over-drying.

Optimize Quality Control

When it comes to performance, the IR-3000 can’t be beat. Energy-efficient and low maintenance, the IR-3000 reduces start-up and downtime while ensuring you achieve the best quality end product—meaning you’ll cut production costs and eliminate waste due to incorrect moisture levels.

Clay, talc, and various mineral components are extracted from quarries, processed, blended, and dried to a specific moisture content before being shaped in a Dust or Ram Press under extreme pressure. The moisture levels of the tiles can differ by up to 7% and must be dried in an oven or with air until they reach a moisture level within 1% before they are fired in the kiln. This precaution is taken to prevent any tiles from exploding during the firing process.

non-contact

Our equipment never comes into contact with the product, allowing for less waste

zero drift

Our sensors are guaranteed not to drift over time – which saves time and money

closed loop

Create a closed-loop process by tying a moisture sensor into your PLC. Full control over the line!

no recalibrations

We’ve mastered the art of moisture sensors – your unit will never need to be recalibrated for the same product twice!

What is the Solution?

The IR-3000 takes instant, non-contact, highly accurate measurements of moisture levels in % dry and % wet—allowing you to adjust moisture content either automatically or manually. It’s also capable of measuring other vital levels, such as temperature, with precision.

Installation

The ideal placement for the IR3000 analyzer is to position it perpendicular to the conveyor that carries the clay powder, with a distance of approximately 4-12 inches above it. It is recommended to place the analyzer in a way that it can view the freshly turned product, making it most suitable to position it right after a conveyor change.

Understand the Process

The need for precise clay moisture levels has become a critical component during production. Being such a porous material, clay can easily become either too wet or too dry wasting manufacturers time and money.
