Why Moisture is Essential
Crumb rubber has the potential to enhance the characteristics of asphalt utilized in the construction of highways. Additionally, it finds utility in various other areas such as providing ground cover beneath playground equipment, serving as material for running tracks, and acting as a soil additive in sports and playing fields.
Crumb rubber can easily become either too wet or dry wasting the manufacturer’s time and money as well as impacting the quality of the end product, making moisture measurement and control an important quality control step.

Our sensor calibrations, measurement wavelengths, algorithms, and sensor optical requirements are pre-set at the factory. Typical accuracy is about ±0.1% moisture. The typical analog range is 0-5% moisture. The outputs can be adjusted to optimize PLC or recording requirements.

Installation Success
Install the IR-3000 Crumb Rubber Moisture Sensor several inches above the conveyor, prior to the bailing area. The sensor can continuously monitor the process and can control the crumb rubber moisture content either manually or automatically in the finished product.
If the sensor has to be installed close to dryer outlet where it will be susceptible to extreme heat conditions, it may be necessary to cool the sensor with either air or water. Furthermore, if the rubber is steamy, it may be necessary to install an air purge system to prevent steam from condensing on the sensor’s window.
