Production Process

Soap is produced through a chemical reaction called saponification, which involves combining fats, oils, or fatty acids with water-soluble bases. Common fats used include beef or mutton tallow, coconut, and palm kernel. The fats or oils are treated to remove impurities and enhance color or scent before undergoing saponification either continuously or in batches. This process yields liquid soap, also known as neat soap, along with glycerin as a by-product. The glycerin is extracted and purified, while the liquid soap is dried in a vacuum spray drier before being formed into pellets using a pelletizer. These soap noodles are then stored in bins until they are transformed into bar soap.

One of the most important aspects of creating high quality soap flakes is optimizing moisture content. If moisture is not kept at the right levels during the production process, the product quality becomes inferior, which leads to waste and losses in profits. The IR-3000 measures moisture in % dry and % wet by taking instant non-contact readings. Temperature, chemical composition, and other levels vital to soap flake production and processing are also measured with accuracy.

To accurately measure the detergent moisture levels, the sensor should be installed over the conveyor transporting the detergent. The sensor should be mounted several inches above the belt, screw conveyor or any area where the material can be viewed.

Gauge Installation

The IR3000 enables moisture measurement to be conducted at the pelletizer’s exit. The 4-20 mA or optional output can be utilized to regulate steam pressure in the heat exchanger, thereby impacting the moisture level of the pellets. MoistTech suggests installing the gauge at a 20º angle relative to the horizontal position in order to reduce specular reflection. In cases where the exit chute is enclosed, the product can be observed either through a viewing window or an insertion probe.
