Linen Moisture

Near-Infrared Moisture Control

Cotton and linen, due to their brittleness, require processing at elevated levels of approximately 3-4%. By incorporating humidity into every stage of the manufacturing process, starting from the combing of the raw material, through carding, twisting, spinning, and weaving, the manufacturer can guarantee the flexibility and durability of the final product, effectively preventing any breakage. This is important since the longer the fiber, the finer the thread that can be spun.

MoistTech has been involved in the textile industry for numerous years and fully understands the linen production process—retting, dressing, breaking, scutching, and hackling—and how quickly the moisture content of the flax fibers can be affected at each point in the process. We offer performance guarantees on our equipment and can provide on-site support. MoistTech’s IR-3000 moisture sensor enables manufacturers to track the linen moisture content throughout the production process, allowing line personnel to ensure competitiveness within the market.

Wool is also vulnerable to dry air, although it is slightly more tolerant and needs humidity levels of approximately 3%. Similarly, man-made fibers necessitate the appropriate, albeit lower, humidity level as they become susceptible to static electricity buildup when the humidity drops below 2-2.5%. Silk, on the other hand, should be handled at a humidity range of 3-4%, while artificial silk spinning requires a higher humidity level of around 4%.

non-contact

Our equipment never comes into contact with the product, allowing for less waste

zero drift

Our sensors are guaranteed not to drift over time – which saves time and money

closed loop

Create a closed-loop process by tying a moisture sensor into your PLC. Full control over the line!

no recalibrations

We’ve mastered the art of moisture sensors – your unit will never need to be recalibrated for the same product twice!

Is MoistTech the Solution?

The IR-3000 was designed and built to provide long-term, reliable performance in even the harshest industrial environment. It will outperform the competition because the IR-3000 is rugged, durable, stable, and practically maintenance free. It is unaffected by making it the most reliable instrument in the linen production industry.

Installation Points

Locate the point in the production process in which measuring moisture will be the most crucial and beneficial. Identify how you will use the moisture measurement data for improvements and if it will tie into your PLC.

Remember this could involve more than one installation point!

Assess

The IR-3000 near-infrared (NIR) online moisture detector and software system was designed and built to measure linen moisture levels at any point along the production process. Because it provides non-contact measurement, moisture can be controlled, in real time, during production from fiber to final fabric. By using the IR-3000 to optimize process control, you will improve product quality, increase productivity, and decrease production costs.
