Reconstituted Tobacco Moisture

What Is The Best Way To Measure Reconstituted Tobacco Moisture?

Reconstituted tobacco moisture affects product quality in several aspects. Incorporating a proper moisture measurement sensor can help eliminate common issues and obtain higher efficiency, less waste and downtime, better product quality, and increased productivity. But what is the best way to achieve all this? MoistTech’s 828 model sensor can provide exactly that!

Ideal moisture range: 12-20%

Reconstituted tobacco quality is affected by moisture and creates common issues

  • Increases product weight
  • High moisture content decreases tobacco burn time and must be correctly balanced for taste and economy – this also creates an inefficient drying process, wasting energy
  • Cutting and other post-processing tasks are affected and must be correctly balanced for processing speed and economy

Optimize Your Production Quality

non-contact

Our equipment never comes into contact with the product, allowing for less waste

zero drift

Our sensors are guaranteed not to drift over time – which saves time and money

closed loop

Create a closed-loop process by tying a moisture sensor into your PLC. Full control over the line!

no recalibrations

We’ve mastered the art of moisture sensors – your unit will never need to be recalibrated for the same product twice!

What is the Solution?

Real-time moisture readings are available at the entrance or exit of the conditioning cylinders and dryers. Additional measurement points in the process consist of the casing cylinder exit, DIET line, reconstituted line, and stem line. Temperature measurement is also possible as an optional feature.

Dryer control is the most sensitive area of the tobacco process. Thousands of kilos per hour are processed where volume, temperature, and input moisture vary. The MoistTech model 828 tobacco moisture sensor provides the user with the ability to monitor and control this process to within tenth of a percent.

Installation Points

The Model 828 gauge can be installed at nearly any stage of production, including the conditioning cylinders (before or after drying), cutters, toasters, or directly on the reconstituted lines’ belt conveyors, screw and drag conveyors, down chutes, or storage bins. Installing the gauge within the reconstituted tobacco’s lines ensures that the moisture is accurately measured and controlled in this part of the process.

Support

MoistTech’s experts will assess your specific application with lab tests, calibrations and accuracy results to ensure our equipment will peform for you. All of our sensors are pre-calibrated prior to being shipped to create a plug-and-play operation for the end-user.
