Precision Moisture Measurement
Inaccurate moisture levels can lead to multiple issues in the wood manufacturing industry. By using a precision moisture sensor from MoistTech, the moisture levels can be measured, and alterations can be made as needed. The sensor can stand up to harsh conditions to help improve product quality.
The Background
An Oregon-based manufacturer of medium density fiberboard was having issues with its existing moisture gauge. After several costly repairs, they were looking to move in a new direction. See how MoistTech’s moisture sensor was able to solve their problem and provide accurate measurements.
The Problem
The Oregon MDF manufacturer had been using a moisture gauge on its forming line. The gauge was continually failing due to high temperatures. It would cost the manufacturer $25,0000-$30,000 to replace the gauge and $15,000-$20,000 for a repair, along with lengthy repair times. The gauge manufacturer could not supply a vortex cooling system. After several repairs and new gauges, the fiberboard manufacturer was not happy.
The Solution
Following its struggles with the gauge manufacturer, the fiberboard company reached out to MoistTech for a new approach. MoistTech supplied an IR-3000 moisture gauge with a vortex cooling panel. There have been no more issues with the sensor shutting down in the heat. It is correlating with lab test results within 0.1%. The company can now accurately and consistently measure the moisture content of the fiberboard, and it will not be paying for costly repairs.
